In New York State a podiatrist is licensed to
treat any condition affecting the foot. The foot consists of
skin, soft tissue, blood, bones, etc... Now if the blood in the
foot has a high amout of sugar then this is a diabetic foot. A
podiatrist is licensed to prescribe any medication needed
to lower or rather normalize the sugar in the diabetic foot
but not licensed to treat any other part of the human body.
What is to stop the podiatrist in New York from prescribing
Insulin and explaining to the patient that they are only
licensed to treat the foot and no other part of the human
body. Then since common side effects which can be positive
as well as negative the podiatrist can then explain that his
podiatric treatment of any patient with insulin may affect
the sugar levels in other parts of the body by lowering the
sugar and helping the sugar levels in the other parts of the
body. The podiatrist clarifies this by saying it is a side effect
and not a podiatric treatment since the lowering of the sugar
levels in other parts of the body he is not licensed to treat or
even bill out for.
In New York State can a podiatrists treatment of the foot affect
other parts of the human body?
